In the 1980's, men with a lot of hair were thought to be sexy. Now, this is not exactly the case. Being hairy is often an embarrassment for many men. It's even more embarrassing for women. One out of four women has unwanted facial hair. Looking like Cindy Crawford and having a mustache is not exactly every woman's dream. The sad fact is, the facial hair is not going to stop it actually gets worse as we get older. For women, they may find that menopause causes the hair to stop growing on their legs, but it is growing at twice the rate on their face.

For males, having excess hair causes self-esteem issues. Some men may feel like they look like a monkey because they look like they are wearing a coat when that is just their arm hair. The hair also tends to be longer, coarser, and wiry compared to hair on the head. While some men hold onto the "legend" that hairy men are smarter, others are starting to realize that the only solution is to have the hair removed.

Testosterone is found in both males and females, although men do have more of it. As the hormones develop and change, the testosterone can cause the body to become more hairy. It will stimulate the adrenaline glands to produce more hair. The annoying part is that the hair is normally in places where we don't want it like the chin, arms, back, and chest, not on the head! So who is to blame for your hairiness? Your ancestors! If you had a parent that was hairy, chances are this gene is going to get passed along to you and you get to pay thousands of dollars for waxing and laser hair removal treatments. Some doctors have found that their patients respond well to medications, but this isn't always the case for everyone. Your best bet is to pay to have the hair removed if you are tired of looking like a jungle woman or jungle man.

If you are a younger female, say in your twenties, hairiness could be pointing to a problem with your ovaries. Polycystic ovary syndrome is a serious condition which can significantly reduce your chances of conceiving a child. This condition normally runs in families and can be controlled with weight control and medication. If you notice a sudden increase in facial hair, it is wise to talk to your gynecologist to find out if it is pointing to an underlying condition.

For most men and women, the least expensive way to treat hairiness is to bleach the hair or simply shave it off. However, shaving is something that will need to be done daily or every-other day because the hair will grow back quickly. There are some creams that remove the hair. Nair is one of the most popular creams used to remove excess hair. This cream does work and it can leave the skin looking clean and smooth for several days. The downside is that it often causes skin irritation and leaves a person with itching, redness, and burning of the area where the cream was applied.

If you are sick of being hairy and you want to get rid of it for weeks at a time, waxing id your best bet. Warm wax will be applied to your body and then a technician will rapidly pull the wax off the body with a cloth. For small areas, waxing isn't so bad. For large areas, like your chest, it can take a couple hours and it will be pretty painful. While waxing does remove the hair, it doesn't stop it from growing back.

Your best bet is to invest some money into laser hair removal treatments. Even though this can get pretty expensive, it's the only way to get rid of the rug growing on your back. You will need to have multiple treatments before the hair follicle is destroyed and will no longer produce hairs.
