Everyone has intestinal gas that must be passed through the body and released. Sometimes this gas can be embarrassing because it produces a loud sound or a foul odor. The air in the gut is caused from the air we swallow when we eat and drink. There is no stopping it from occurring, but you can do things that lessen the sound and smell. It is important to release the gas because it can stay in the gut and cause stomach pain and lower abdominal cramping. The gas is made up for carbon dioxide, methane, and hydrogen.

When you are in a public place, having to pass gas is quite embarrassing. You can try and excuse yourself and go to the restroom, but when you are feeling particularly gassy, you may be passing gas every few minutes. A lot of people resort to the method of holding in the gas by contracting the buttocks to block the gas from escaping from the intestines. This method does work sometimes. In fact, the gas is often absorbed into the bloodstream and then released when we exhale. In a social situation, this may get you by for a few minutes, but it won't get you through the entire night. This is why it's also important to try some other things.

Gas-X and Beano are popular medications used to control or limit the amount of gas you need to pass. These products need to be taken before you have a meal as they have a special enzyme that will break down the foods that can cause you to be gassy. Fresh vegetables like broccoli always tend to be one of the leading causes of gas. By taking Beano before you eat it, the enzymes will help to break down the foods, allowing your body to digest them easier. If you know you are going to consume foods that cause you to be gassy, always take the pills beforehand.

It's a good idea to take the pills if you are going into a public situation and you have had gas problems all day. Taking the pills will allow the digestive system to work properly and pass the foods. Try to drink plenty of water to help the digestive system flush out some of the foods that may be causing you to have gas.

If you find that you are constantly dealing with gas issues in public places, consider purchasing underwear that has a carbon filter. While it can't do much for the sound of gas, it can help to limit the smell. People that use the restroom and light a match often find that the smell disappears within a few seconds. This special underwear works similar to it. Instead of lighting a match, it has special carbon filter that the gas must go through in order to escape. The air that is sent through will not have an odor as the filter absorbs the smell.

There are some other things you can do to limit gas in public places. First, limit your intake of drinks and foods. The more air you swallow, the more gas you will have. If you know you are going to be in a public area, do not consume foods that commonly make you gassy. Some of these foods include carbohydrates like pastas, breads, beans, and fresh vegetables. If you do eat these foods, consume them in smaller portions so you don't swallow as much air and so it is easier for the body to break them down. Slowly increase the amount of fiber in your diet. Fiber helps the body digest foods easier and it can help to limit the amount of gas you have.

Finally, make sure you are wearing loose fitting clothing. When you wear tight clothing, it constricts the intestines and can make your gas problems worse.
